This figure is embodied in the narrative painting of Gloria Ferrer, a painting that beyond demonstrating a mastery of technique, reflects everyday situations often removed from fashions, but that still belong to our reality.

In this work the painter expands her artistic universe by giving a nod to the world of the fan. It is not the first time that fans appear in his works, having also painted some cloth mounted on this structure. This nod to lovers of fans also hides one of the artist's hobbies, since he is also a collector.

The fans today are more an object of collecting than a complement of current use. Depending on the sources consulted, it is said that although Egyptians and Greeks used fans to cool themselves, the first folding fans were introduced to Europe by the Jesuits, and in France by Catherine de Medici. Soon becoming popular, they soon saw luxury fans made of fabrics, metals and precious stones.

At present there are different specialized museums in the world such as Aldaia, the Fan Museum in London, or Le Musée de l'Eventail in Paris where you can see true wonders of this object.

Picture

The woman of the fans represents a shopkeeper who works in this trade, the sale of fans, which is showing off on the counter and explaining to the client that looks at him (the viewer)

Of bright colors, the painting stands out for its composition and for representing a figure that blends with its own products even in its dress, moving its gaze with its romantic attachment or anchoring - perhaps out of necessity or not having another opportunity - to a kinder past.
